k-k-k-Katie

I was standing by a shelf full of assorted coffee roasts and an array of travel mugs with the all too familiar Starbucks' logo imprinted on each. Waiting for my early morning pick me up; made on this foggy winter morning by a fellow Katie. Often the barista will sing along to either the music playing overhead or to the music in their heads; but Katie is known for sing-songing everything from general greetings to describing herself making your beverage. That was the first time I heard the very homey and nostalgic "k-k-k-Katie" song or rhyme that my mother's Uncle Ted used to say every time I saw him. Granted her version was much more humorous and a little erratic due to the unknown number of espresso shots she'd had by then. But still, the very same little tune. At first I was slightly upset by this occurrence, the idea that uncle Ted sang that for me; created a rhyme all for one little girl..gone. But then as I got in my car and headed out of the lot the initial disappoint faded. So what if a friend of mine knew about the little diddy of my youth, so what if it's not the big secret I told myself it was. I was still the only "k-k-k-Katie" in my family and I still had the sound of him replaying in my heart.
